A collaborative certificate course on the IMEX America programme brings exhibition, meeting and incentive expertise together, illustrating a practical role for international associations in professional education.

IMEX America, Las Vegas, USA — The International Association of Exhibitions and Events (IAEE), Meeting Professionals International (MPI) and the Society for Incentive Travel Excellence (SITE) were named as expert contributors to a Global MICE Collaborative Certificate course on the Smart Monday programme ahead of IMEX America.

Listed for 12 October, the half-day course covered the meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions sector and the skills required to deliver its different event formats. SITE’s official programme placed the course within its wider week of research, education and professional engagement in Las Vegas.

For professionals working across different event formats, shared education offers a setting to compare approaches and build a broader understanding of the responsibilities involved in planning and delivery.

Pooling Association Expertise

The collaboration brings together organisations representing exhibitions and events, meeting professionals and incentive travel specialists. For associations providing professional education, it offers an example of building a course around expertise held across several communities.

A congress team may work with an exhibition, a conference programme and related participant experiences within the same event. Learning across those disciplines could help professionals understand their partners’ responsibilities and make more informed delivery decisions.

A Model for Professional Communities

The broader relevance for association leaders is the opportunity to develop education with complementary organisations. A shared course can draw on different perspectives while giving learners a clearer view of the wider sector in which they work.

For organisations considering a similar partnership, the practical questions concern learning objectives, assessment and recognition. Participants need to understand what the certificate demonstrates and how it relates to further development. The IMEX offering provides a useful example of associations creating a common learning opportunity while retaining their respective areas of expertise.
