Dubai has launched the UAE’s first Green Innovation District at Expo City Dubai, marking a new initiative to support the country’s green economy, industrial diversification, and net-zero objectives. The district was announced on November 25, 2025, through a collaboration between the Ministry of Economy and Tourism and Expo City Dubai.
The Green Innovation District has been developed with four founding partners and is intended to attract international companies working in areas such as circular economy solutions, clean energy, sustainable manufacturing, and urban farming. Expo City Dubai was selected as the location due to its sustainability-focused infrastructure, free zone status, and transport links connecting Jebel Ali Port and Al Maktoum International Airport.
Facilities within the district will include office, retail, food and beverage, and light industrial spaces, as well as designated farm plots. The initiative will also introduce the UAE’s first Green Licence, designed to support businesses aligned with environmental and sustainability objectives. In addition, an on-site Ministry of Economy intellectual property office will be established to encourage research, development, and technology localisation.
According to Abdulla Bin Touq Al Marri, UAE Minister of Economy and Tourism, the district supports national priorities under the “We the UAE 2031” vision. Expo City Dubai Chief Executive Officer Reem Al Hashimy said the project is intended to bring together environmentally focused businesses while reinforcing the UAE’s role in sustainable development.
Founding partners include Intesa Sanpaolo, Nestlé, Majra, and Palmade. The initiative was announced during the Asia Pacific Cities Summit and Mayors’ Forum, held at Expo City Dubai.
