SINGAPORE — The International Hepato-Pancreato Biliary Association (IHPBA) has been awarded the 2026 Incredible Impacts Programme Seed Fund Grant for a legacy initiative aimed at reducing disparities in liver cancer outcomes across Asia Pacific.
The US$5,000 grant will support a new Legacy Project linked to the 17th IHPBA World Congress, taking place in Singapore from 28 to 31 October 2026 in partnership with the Singapore Tourism Board.
The project will focus on improving outcomes for hepatocellular carcinoma, the most common form of primary liver cancer, particularly in low- and middle-income countries across the region. IHPBA plans to promote more equitable care through regionally relevant clinical frameworks, greater collaboration and policy leadership.
The Incredible Impacts Programme, run jointly by BestCities Global Alliance and ICCA, recognises international associations that use their meetings to generate lasting benefits beyond the event itself. Two grants are awarded annually: a US$5,000 Seed Fund Grant and a US$20,000 Main Grant.
BestCities Managing Director Loren Christie said the IHPBA initiative demonstrates how expertise, collaboration and shared purpose can be mobilised around a major healthcare challenge, with the potential to create an impact extending beyond the Congress.
IHPBA 2026 Congress President Dr Shridhar Iyer said the ambition is for the Singapore gathering to be remembered not only for the science presented but also for the lasting difference it creates.
The initiative adds a legacy dimension to the Singapore congress, using the international gathering of specialists as a platform to advance more equitable liver cancer care across Asia Pacific.
