Berlin Tourismus & Kongress GmbH has appointed Jürgen Amann as Managing Director for Destination Marketing & Commercial, with his term set to begin on 1 June 2026. He will succeed Burkhard Kieker, who is due to retire when his contract concludes in summer 2026.
Amann joins the Berlin-based organisation after nearly six years as Managing Director of KölnTourismus GmbH, a position he has held since February 2020. He was selected from a field of more than 100 applicants. Amann holds a PhD in economic geography and has held senior roles in destinations including Ingolstadt, Dresden, and Cologne.
Kieker has led Berlin Tourismus & Kongress GmbH since 2009 and has overseen a period of growth in the city’s international visibility as both a tourism and meetings destination.
Commenting on the appointment, Supervisory Board Chair Oliver Schumacher described Amann as an experienced tourism leader. He noted that, working alongside co-Managing Director Sabine Wendt, Amann will focus on priorities including digital transformation and the expansion of the organisation’s own revenue streams.
Amann highlighted the role of new technologies and communication channels in strengthening destination positioning, while Wendt emphasised the importance of close collaboration with the tourism and events industry. She noted that integrating tourism development with marketing remains central to Berlin’s future destination strategy.
