Singapore has expanded its MICE sustainability framework to include social and economic impact alongside environmental responsibility, raising the bar for what associations and event organisers are expected to demonstrate when hosting events in the city.
The MICE Sustainability Roadmap 2.0, developed jointly by the Singapore Tourism Board and SACEOS, was announced at the Singapore MICE Forum 2026. The refreshed roadmap marks the first time social and economic outcomes have been positioned as equal pillars alongside environmental considerations in Singapore’s approach to sustainable business events. The Forum also saw the launch of SHINE, a hotel partnership programme bringing together 22 business events-focused properties covering 25% of Singapore’s hotel room inventory, offering meeting organisers preferential rates and curated delegate experiences.
Minister of State Gan Siow Huang said legacy is not a nice-to-have and can be intentionally woven into any event, regardless of size or budget.
For associations hosting events in Singapore, the Roadmap 2.0 signals that environmental credentials alone are no longer sufficient. Organisers will increasingly be expected to show how their events engage local communities and generate economic contribution alongside carbon and waste metrics.
