TOKYO — Tokyo has entered the global top ten in the latest ICCA City Rankings, placing 10th worldwide and third in Asia-Pacific after hosting 119 ICCA-qualified international association conferences in 2025.

The result marks one of Tokyo’s strongest performances in recent years and comes as the city continues to build its profile as a destination for technology, science, healthcare, and advanced industries. According to the latest rankings, Tokyo also placed second globally in the technology category, highlighting its growing role as a host for innovation-focused meetings.

While convention infrastructure remains important, ICCA rankings are largely driven by a destination’s ability to attract international association conferences that rotate between countries. These events are often secured through a combination of academic expertise, industry leadership, local host support, and international accessibility.

The city is home to one of the world’s largest concentrations of universities, research institutions, and multinational technology companies. Large-scale venues such as Tokyo International Forum, Tokyo Big Sight, and the expanding events district around Ariake have enabled Tokyo to host major international congresses across sectors ranging from medical science and engineering to technology and finance. Combined with connections through Haneda and Narita airports, the city remains one of the most accessible conference destinations in Asia.

The ranking also reflects a broader trend across Asia-Pacific. As destinations compete more aggressively for international association business, success is increasingly tied to the strength of local knowledge ecosystems rather than tourism appeal alone. Cities that can connect conferences to research, innovation, and industry expertise are becoming more competitive in the global congress market.

Business Events Tokyo said it will continue working with convention industry partners and conference organisers to strengthen the city’s position. The latest ICCA results suggest that Tokyo’s combination of research capability, technology leadership and established meetings infrastructure continues to resonate with international associations evaluating future host destinations.
