TCEB’s new MICE Super Platform signals a broader shift in the role of convention bureaux — from promoting destinations to providing the digital infrastructure connecting buyers, suppliers, and business intelligence.

THAILAND – Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau is repositioning itself from a provider of industry information to what it calls a “digital infrastructure builder” with the launch of its new MICE Super Platform. The initiative transforms TCEB’s existing MICE Intelligence Center into a broader digital environment, bringing together data, business insights and digital services through a single sign-on.

Launched under the theme “Digital by Design, Data by Default”, the platform is intended to support businesses throughout the decision-making journey, from identifying opportunities to securing business.

For the association meetings industry, the more interesting aspect may not be the platform itself, but what it says about the changing role of convention bureaux. Traditionally, bureaux have concentrated on destination marketing, lead generation, bidding support and connecting organisers with local suppliers. Data and technology are adding another layer to that relationship.

Associations and PCOs increasingly expect to make destination decisions based on evidence — including accessibility, delegate behaviour, sector strengths, accommodation, sustainability performance and potential local partners. A destination that can consolidate useful information and industry connections into one ecosystem potentially makes the planning and bidding process considerably easier.

The development also comes as AI and data analytics are beginning to influence how meetings are researched, marketed and delivered. The test will therefore be how much genuinely useful information and functionality eventually becomes available to organisers — and how effectively Thailand’s local industry adopts it.

Nevertheless, TCEB’s decision to describe itself as a digital infrastructure builder marks an interesting evolution. The next generation of convention bureau may be expected not only to sell the destination, but also to provide some of the digital tools needed to do business with it.
