AUCKLAND — Auckland has introduced a dedicated five-day public transport pass for business events delegates, making it easier for visitors to travel between venues, accommodation and attractions while supporting the city’s wider sustainability and business events strategy.

Developed jointly by Auckland Convention Bureau and Auckland Transport, the new Hui Pass offers delegates unlimited travel on Auckland’s bus and train network for five consecutive days from first use. Available through event organisers for NZ$20 per card, the pass can be incorporated into delegate registrations, sponsorship packages or event programmes.

The initiative was launched during MEETINGS 2026 and follows industry feedback highlighting demand for a simpler and more cost-effective transport solution for conference delegates. According to Auckland Transport, 70 per cent of surveyed international business events visitors said they were very likely to use public transport during their stay, while a pilot programme recorded an 83 per cent utilisation rate, with delegates averaging more than nine trips per card.

Rachel Cara, Group Manager of Public Transport Operations at Auckland Transport, said the Hui Pass supports both Auckland’s competitiveness as a business events destination and the city’s climate objectives by encouraging greater use of public transport. Ken Pereira, Head of Business Events at Tātaki Auckland Unlimited, said the initiative complements major investments in business events infrastructure, including the New Zealand International Convention Centre and the City Rail Link, while helping delegates move more easily between venues and experiences across the city.

Named after the Māori word hui, meaning gathering or meeting, the pass reflects a broader shift towards designing delegate experiences that extend beyond the conference venue. By reducing transport barriers and encouraging delegates to explore the city independently, the initiative also supports local businesses and visitor spending throughout Auckland.

As destinations compete to improve the overall visitor experience, transport is increasingly becoming part of the business events value proposition. Auckland’s Hui Pass demonstrates how practical mobility solutions can contribute to accessibility, sustainability and a more connected delegate journey.
