HANOI — The opening of Fairmont Hanoi marks another sign of growing investment in luxury hospitality and meetings infrastructure across Southeast Asia, as destinations seek to strengthen their position in the high-end MICE market.
The property, which officially opened on 30 March, is the first Fairmont Hotels & Resorts property in Vietnam. Located in Hanoi’s historic Hoan Kiem district, the hotel features 241 guestrooms and more than 4,000 square metres of event space, including a 1,100-square-metre pillarless ballroom designed to accommodate large-scale conferences, corporate events and international gatherings.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Vietnam National Authority of Tourism Chairman Nguyen Trung Khanh described the launch as a significant milestone for Vietnam’s tourism and hospitality sector. He noted that the country’s accommodation inventory now exceeds 800,000 rooms, including nearly 300 five-star hotels, reflecting continued growth in the premium travel segment.
Beyond room inventory, the opening highlights the increasing role of international hotel brands in supporting MICE development. Fairmont Hanoi joins a growing pipeline of luxury properties across Vietnam and Thailand that are combining high-end accommodation with purpose-built meeting and event facilities, allowing destinations to compete more effectively for international conferences, incentive programmes and corporate events.
The development also comes as both countries continue to invest heavily in business events infrastructure. Vietnam is expanding exhibition and convention capacity through projects such as the Vietnam Exposition Center, while Thailand has continued to position meetings and events as a strategic growth sector through targeted investment and international bidding efforts.
With international demand for premium meetings and incentive experiences continuing to recover, the arrival of global luxury brands such as Fairmont reflects growing confidence in Southeast Asia’s ability to attract both high-value travellers and large-scale business events.
